Intro On Different Design Styles: Defining Popular Interior Design Styles
A good way to get started figuring out which interior design style is right for you is by reviewing some popular interior design styles. These designs are timeless and will add style to any home. Below are definitions of popular interior design styles along with mood boards I made inspired by each design style to give you an idea of the look. Keep an eye out for elements that you like as you read the bios and look at the mood boards to help identify your favorite style.
Modern Bohemian Interior Design
Modern Bohemian design style is one of my personal favorites - because of how light-hearted it is! Modern bohemian interior design is all about combining textures, fun pops of color, and pattern to your spaces - with a clean line modern touch. It is not restrictive, it’s based on picking furniture and materials that you love. You can mix many patterns and textures together to create a comforting space that you’ll want to spend all your time in.
Mid-Century Modern Design
Mid Century Modern design is clean, sleek, and organized. You will find a lot of mid-century modern furniture these days - it’s a popular classic look. I love modern design because contrary to its title, it refers to a time and design style that has already passed. This makes it a great candidate for vintage shopping! If you have estate sales or thrift stores you can visit where you live, you will find many mid-century modern pieces for resale. You can also buy new furniture designed in mid-century style.
Industrial Interior Design
Industrial interior design takes inspiration from warehouses that have been converted to lofts. In NYC, there are so many industrial spaces that have been converted into apartments. They all have elements of their industrial bones exposed - a steel beam or air vent in plain sight. This look has been adapted to spaces that don’t share the same industrial footprint. You will see black hardware, exposed beams, strong colors, and lines in spaces with an interior industrial style.
